I received a free box from Wacky Box in exchange for writing this review on the blog. Although this post is sponsored, all opinions are my own.
Finding the Right Resources
It is my humble opinion, that one of the toughest things to do as a stay at home mom, is come up with new and fun ideas to entertain, stimulate and engage our little ones. I know N has a really hard time if he is not actively engaged in doing something. He has such a tiny attention span for toys and things of that nature, but give him an activity to do and he becomes a totally different child.
A while ago N was going through a particularly rough time in this area. He was desperate for some educational and brain stretching activities and so I went in search of some! During my search I came across a company called Wacky Box. It was their slogan that attracted me to their boxes more than anything else. “Effortless Quality Time – All the supplies you need for a whole months experiences with your toddler.”
It isn’t a box of toys that you can throw at your child and leave them to sort themselves out. It is a box of activities that encourage development, but more importantly, encourage relationship and play – with your child. What a beautiful idea!
Who is Wacky Box?
The Wacky Box company has been around for less that a year and already they have sent out over 2000 boxes. They have over 400 clients that use their subscription service. That gives me a good indication of the value and service level they provide to their customers!
You can get a 3 month or 6 month subscription to their boxes. They also have the option of doing a once off “Gift Box” which is an idea that I LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! What an awesome gift to give as a birthday present to a friend’s baby. It is also a really nice way to try out their boxes before you subscribe.
Nicolene (the brains behind all of the activities and owner of the company) used to be a BabyGym instructor and all of her creative ideas are based on the fundamental principals of childhood development. You can see her expertise clearly in the activities she creates. This lady knows what she is talking about!
More exciting to me than all of that, is that starting the Wacky Box company has been a step of faith for Nicolene and her family. She had been a stay at home mom for a while and at a retreat in April last year, God told her to get moving with her ideas. Nicolene took her step of faith, was obedient to God, and in May she started her company. Today they are getting ready to celebrate the first anniversary of her business and God’s provision over it. What an awesome testimony!
What’s inside a Wacky Box?
When our Wacky Box arrived I was completely blown away by the amount of activities they include inside the box as well as the quality of the product.
Each box is broken up into 4 weeks and there are 5 or 6 different activities to do each week. These activities are songs, crafts, fine motor, sensory play and gross motor activities. I was absolutely delighted at the creativity and effort that is put into this product. You can tell that they are extremely passionate about their product. They pay attention to every detail, from the packaging to the creation of each activity, right down to the instructions that come with the box.
I just love the intense level of concentration!
Another thing that I have loved about the Wacky Box is that the activities are not complicated and they don’t require you to have huge amounts of “other supplies” at home in order to make the activities successful (I have been caught out by some Pinterest activities in this regard!) The only additional things we needed for our box were a paint brush and some extra cotton wool. It really makes moms job a breeze because they include what you need for every activity!
They even go so far as to include the little car!
Wacky Box has 4 different age categories for their boxes. 5-12 months, 1-2 years, 3-4 years and 5-6 years.
We got the 1-2 year Wacky Box for N even though it arrived the week before his 1st birthday. Some of the activities in this box are quite far out of his abilities at this point, while some have been spot on for him. Some things I didn’t expect him to manage and he did them beautifully – so there you go. Never assume they can’t! There is quite a big difference between a one year old and a two year old so it is nice that there are a range of age appropriate activities for the entire age group. It is also great because we can keep the activities for him to do later on, when he is old enough to manage them.
Sensory play with cloud dough.
