5 Baby Friendly Breakfast Ideas

Baby N hates porridge. I can’t blame him, I hate porridge too. I have just never eaten the stuff. I also loath eating cereals. I hate that it goes soggy and I can’t stand to have a solid and a liquid in my mouth at the same time……I know, it’s weird! So breakfast for me has often been toast over the last 25 years, much to my parents dismay.

N has been having a fair amount of toast for breakfast lately and can you believe it, I’m not really keen for him to have toast everyday. Oh, the things we learn when we become parents! So I have been on a bit of a mission for the last little while, trying to find some easy breakfast ideas that are not toast, porridge or cereal. Also, I am a little on the cautious side when it comes to the food we eat, especially at breakfast. I don’t like us to eat lots of sugar or fats often, and definitely nothing processed. It’s fine as a treat every now and again, but not on a regular basis. Sorry family, but in this house, we don’t have bacon very often!

Without further ado, here are my top 5 go to breakfast ideas, that are not porridge or cereal.

These recipes require making beforehand, but they are worth it.

Click on the pictures to be redirected to the websites where I found the recipes.

#1. Yogurt and fruit – no recipe required. If however, you are like me and prefer to make your own homemade yogurt, click the picture for the slow cooker recipe I use.

#2 Breakfast Frittatas – So easy to make and delicious to eat.

#3 Bran Muffins with various Fruits or Veggies – I haven’t managed to find a recipe online that is as simple, quick and frugal as mine, so I will write up the recipe in a follow up post and create a link to it. For now, this picture will have to do, sorry!

#4 Zucchini Bread – This is such a hit in our house. N loves it! I make it in small loaf tins and I replace the paprika with curry powder. So, so, so good!

#5 Muesli with Fruit and Yogurt – I have linked a different recipe to the one that I normally use. This one uses less honey and I love the addition of peanut butter so it is definitely going to be tried this week!

#6 BONUS!! Banana Nut Scones – I have not tried this recipe yet but plan to soon. This is not what pops into mind when you say scone in South Africa, but they look like they are definitely worth a try. I would leave off the icing for breakfast though.

I really hope that you have found some useful information here. Let me know if you try any of these.
