5 Reasons to be a SAHM

5-reasons

As I start this blog I feel like it is really important for me to lay out the foundations of who I am. Right now, I am living my dream of being a stay at home mom.

Being a SAHM is a decision that needs to be made as a family. I was a teacher for about 10 years but I have always felt the calling in my heart to be a mom and homemaker. I have been a SAHM for 8 months now and boy is it a different way of life. (That is an entire post on its own) So without further ado, here are my 5 reasons for choosing to stay at home.

5-reasons

1.) I believe it is a Godly calling for women to manage their households.

I believe that men and women have qualities that are made to compliment each other and I believe that a womans work is in the home. And yes, I’m going to do it….I’m going to quote Proverbs 31.

Pr 31: 27 She carefully watches everything in her household

    and suffers nothing from laziness.

2.) Being a blessing to my husband

The wife sets the tone for the entire household. I want to be a blessing to my husband. To be able to support him in his work, to look after his needs and to take care of him. I want my husband to feel loved when he gets home from work and I don’t want him to have to worry about things around the house and the general admin of running a house and stuff. He needs to be able to rest when he gets home from a long, hard day  and I get to the privilege of setting that up by making sure that the house is clean and the housework is done.

3.) Raising our son

I cannot explain to you how important this is to me. Being a teacher for so long really highlighted to me what well raised children look like (and the opposite is true as well). It takes time and energy to raise a child well and by me giving up my job, I can focus completely and wholeheartedly on raising our son. (Hopefully he will have siblings in the future) I have nothing but time and energy to spend on him. I don’t want to miss anything and I certainly don’t want to look back and say “I wish I had spent more time with my kids.”

4.) Finances

OK, this isn’t one that would normally be at the top of a list like this but here is my reasoning. If I was working we would have to find money for crèche fees or a nanny, a domestic worker and more traveling and food expenses for me to get to work, not to mention the doctors bills that mount up with children who go to crèches. By me staying at home, we are saving a whole lot of money!

5.) Being a blessing to our community

It has always been my husbands and my desire (right from the very beginning of our marriage) for our marriage to be a blessing to the people around us. Since I have been at home I have been able to build relationships with people in our church community that are stuck in their homes. I have also been able to volunteer to do more work for different ministries in our church. I have cooked meals and tea time treats and really been able to bless the people around me. It has been so wonderful so far. It is so great to see this dream becoming a reality.

So that’s it. My 5 reasons for staying home. I’m not going to lie, I feel like I’m living out my dream.
